Nothing stays the same forever, and my makeup choices have proved to be no exception. Here’s three ways they’ve evolved over the years:

  1. Less is More

I’m all about light to medium coverage, a light hand on application, and sheer and shiny lip products. While I used to wear full coverage foundation, lipsticks and flat matte setting powder, I now prefer a tinted moisturiser, lip gloss or tinted lip balm, and the most finely milled powder I can find (Charlotte Tilbury if you were wondering).

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still oily. But I’m definitely less oily than I used to be. Mattifying seems on the way to becoming a finishing touch rather than a neccessity. This has allowed me to opt for a glowier base; something I had desperately wanted to wear but had to avoid in the past as I just couldn’t pull them off with my pores.

I’ve finally realised that a one-and-done eyeshadow buffed out over my crease, and a highlight to my inner corner, looks the best on my hooded eyes. I’m over multiple shade looks, and large eyeshadow palettes, as while they look beautiful on others, you can’t see much on me if my eyes are open!

Now lip gloss and tinted lip balms feel more casual and wearable for my lifestyle than a matte lipstick. And lip glosses have come along way from when I was younger. I always found them sticky and uncomfortable so didn’t touch them for years after school. But formulas have evolved so much and there’s so many options now, my lipstick collection is collecting dusk. I really can’t see myself buying one ever again. Even if I do go back to them, I’m set for life…

  1. Creams over powders

I’m ashamed to say I don’t know when I last used a powder blusher. This is criminal considering how many I own. And it’s not just blusher. I almost exclusively use cream bronzer and contour. And I don’t shy away from a cream eyeshadow either. There’s just something fresher about my look when I use cream products and powders now look more obvious and dated to me.

Tinted moisturiser, blusher, contour…a good cream formula blends out quickly with my sponge, and I don’t have to reach for several different brushes like I would do if I were using powders. This makes application quicker – another win if you ask me.

  1. Loyalty

When I was younger, I experimented like crazy and tried loads of different brands and products. Now I know what I like, I’m less interested in taking a punt on something new, and I have such an extensive makeup collection that it would be extremely wasteful to buy more items in the majority of categories. Maybe my loyalty will wain over time as my tastes change in the future, but for now, I’m sticking with my tried and true.
