Blog

If you’ve followed my page for a while, you’ll know I’m on a low/no buy as I have a ridiculous amount of makeup from my old shopping-for-beauty-products-as-a-coping-mechanism period, or as I’ve come to call it, makeup escapism. Now, while I might buy the odd cream blusher or lip gloss (very) occasionally, I pretty much stick to replacements.

The benefits of this are infinite, but here are my top five:

  1. Cost Of Living

With living expenses in the UK soaring, and showing no signs of stopping, it’s a very scary time. Not spending on frivolous wants has meant I’m able to put more money towards keeping up with the food and energy prices. And there’s little more important than that.

  1. Health

This is the ‘little more’ mentioned above. The NHS is completely broken. It’s absolutely terrifying to know that you or your loved ones may need help and not be able to get it. I have paid for private EMDR therapy for PTSD, physio for injuries, optometry, hygienist appointments, probiotics and supplements. None of this is cheap, but what a privilege to be able to cover these costs. It absolutely shouldn’t be this way, but it’d be a very long blog post if I got into that…

  1. Savings

Whenever possible, I’m putting money aside for emergencies and my future. Again, a much better investment than another bronzer.

  1. Things I’ve Neglected

When my makeup shopping was at its worst, I put so much focus on acquiring new products, that I couldn’t buy things I actually needed. Now I don’t feel guilty replacing worn out PJs, socks, gym wear, and dressing gowns, or covering the cost of unexpected expenses.

  1. Trying Something New

Okay, we know the climate is bleak, but we’ve got to try and find some fun where we can. I’ve started learning boxing (so I bought gloves and hand wraps, as well as the actual training sessions). This is something I would never be able to do if I was still spending on makeup as I used to. And I have to say, the endorphins from this hit better (no pun) than the dopamine from yet another online beauty order.
