I’m definitely someone who switches up my makeup seasonally. Last year, I even started storing and organising my makeup by season! And while I do dip in and out of the different sections from time to time, it makes it a lot quicker and easier to put cohesive looks together.
In autumn, I tend flit between warmer browns and rosy tones, to cooler neutrals and purples. I like matte lips and a little more coverage for my base. Harsh weather, chilly temperatures, and blustery wind do my skin no favours, so I usually have more redness to conceal.
While my summer makeup looks (lightweight, glowy, glossy) are undoubtably my favourite, I’m excited to change things up and get stuck into my autumn drawer.
Here are five of my top picks:
1. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Nude Bronze Light – This is a beautiful golden bronze shade that doesn’t pull orange. The powder is finely milled, blends out seamlessly with a fluffy brush, and has a subtle sheen for a radiant finish that’s not glittery. Great for warming up the complexion.
2. Glossier Cloud Paint in Dusk – I. Love. This. Shade. I bought both this one and Beam and expected to like Beam more as bright peach tones are what I gravitate towards most often. But there’s something about Dusk that is so lovely. It translates as a warm, muted, dark peach with rosy undertones on me, and can be paired with an array of eye and lip looks. The formula is thin, buildable and easy to work with, and never lifts up my base on application (a pet peeve of mine with some cream blushers). It has a natural finish that isn’t flat matte, and it lasts all day on my oily/combination skin. And the packaging is cute too!
3. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencils in Dolce Vita and Intriguing – If you want a lip that’s matte and long-wearing, while still being comfortable and not overdone, look no further than these lip pencils. Creamy and easy to apply, these are my go-to if I want a soft-glam everyday look. Dolce Vita is a stunning muted red on my lip colour, and makes my blue eyes pop. Intriguing is a warm, dark pink, that looks gorgeous with taupe and purple eye looks. There’s an extensive shade range in this line, so you’re sure to find a shade that suits you. And if you’re olive, try these two and thank me later!
4. Laura Mercier Caviar Eyeshadow Sticks in Amethyst and Cobblestone – The ultimate one-and-done eye, these cream eyeshadow sticks make an impact with ease. I scribble on the lid and blend out with a fluffy brush and they last all day. It definitely looks like you spent more time on your eye look than you did! Amethyst is a metallic taupe/purple on me and really complements my eye colour, but I think it would equally as beautiful on any someone with brown or green eyes, as it’s such a multidimensional shade. You can’t go wrong with Cobblestone either. It’s a neutral-cool brown that creates a matte smokey eye (great for hooded lids) but that can also be sheered out for a subtler finish. Again, the Caviar Stick (I must admit I don’t like the name!) shade range is extensive, so you’re bound to find something for you.
5. Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in Dolce Vita (now Bella Sofia) – Warm bronzy-brown deliciousness. A shimmery palette that adds a touch of sparkle to your look, it’s sultry and glam, making it perfect for events, and the shadows are pigmented and high-quality. A thumbs up from me.
